From Hobbyist to Professional Craftsman. A Love of Working with His Hands.

Joe Unni is the person behind Unni Woodworks. From cutting down trees in the woods to banging nails in Dad’s shop as a child, I’ve had a consistent love of working with my hands. Now as an adult, I especially enjoy feeling the changes in the wood through the production process. Before founding Unni Woodworks, I spent my spare time over 10-12 years as a wood hobbyist: making furnishings for my family and friends. After being laid off from a corporate information technology (IT) role, I used the opportunity to convert my long time hobby into a full-time business of designing and creating quality handcrafted wooden home furnishings.

Quality is King

Growing up surrounded by very nice furniture, I’ve personally experienced the positive feeling one can get from being among beautiful things. This feeling inspired me to create high quality furnishings for others to enjoy and treasure in their surroundings, ideally for generations!

The Excitement of Unlimited Options

Given the limited choices and sizes a furniture manufacturer or mass producer offers, I set myself apart by being able to create unlimited pieces, bound only by your desires and imagination. Some clients bring photos from popular high-end furniture catalogs to me, and ask me to make size, color and functional adjustments to fit their needs. Other clients may provide me with few requirements and allow me the opportunity to let my creativity unfold through the design. Either way, the ultimate satisfaction I receive is from both completing a project and seeing the customer’s reaction.

Personal Inspiration

My first love is family: my wife and two children. In fact, a cradle I made for my daughter became a springboard for more cradle requests from outside my family. As my children grew, their toys strewn throughout the house it motivated me to create other functional furniture solutions for my clients.
